Bitcoin that arrived at one address on March 3, 2020 left it on October 12, 2026. A single transaction sent 4,581.94 BTC out to five new addresses, which is about $384 million at Binance's price near $83,800. The coins were already at that address before the March 2020 crash, and CoinDesk covered the story. The dormant Bitcoin address has a public history on Blockstream's explorer. Every figure below can be checked on a public block explorer.

What the transaction shows

The address has 25 transactions on Blockstream's explorer. The one that matters was confirmed in block 971,126 on October 12. It spent a single input of 4,581.93824 BTC and created five outputs.

Four outputs are exactly 1,000 BTC each. The fifth holds 581.93823268 BTC. The fee was 732 satoshis, a tiny amount for a transfer of this size. As of this morning, October 13, each of the five receiving addresses shows a single transaction, the incoming one, and no outgoing payments.

The history behind the dormant Bitcoin address

The coins came in on March 3, 2020, in block 619,918. The amount was 4,581.9473 BTC. Bitcoin closed that day near $8,760 on Binance, so the deposit was worth about $40 million at the time. Nine days later markets crashed.

The address then sat untouched for more than four years. On August 7, 2024 it made one small outgoing payment of about 0.009 BTC. The rest came straight back to the same address as change, which left 4,581.9382 BTC in place. That is the amount that moved this week.

Apart from that, the only other activity is dust, meaning outputs worth a few hundred satoshis, including two in May 2026. Those amounts are far too small to change the picture.

What the dormant Bitcoin address data cannot tell us

Moves like this attract attention, but chain data alone cannot say why coins were moved. The split into four equal outputs and one remainder is visible on the explorer. The reason for it is not, and this article does not guess at one.

The blockchain records nothing about who controls this dormant Bitcoin address or the new ones, and no exchange label appears on any of the five receiving ones in the explorer data. So this article names no owner and draws no conclusion about intent. What can be said is limited to the record. The coins stayed at one address from March 2020 until October 12, 2026, and then left in a single transaction. The five new addresses show no spending.

The market showed no clear reaction to the dormant Bitcoin address moving its coins. BTC/USDT on Binance traded between about $82,300 and $83,100 in the three hours after the block confirmed. That is much the same band as the two hours before it. Bitcoin dipped under $82,000 later that night, but nothing in the data connects that fall to this transfer.
