Gauntlet Compound Renewal Asks $450K, Down From $2.3M
The Gauntlet Compound renewal for Year 6 asks $450,000, down from $2.3 million in Year 5. What the fee covers, what moved to the TMC, and the exit terms.

Gauntlet wants to keep its Compound job for about one fifth of last year's pay. A forum post published at 10:29 UTC on October 15, 2026 proposes a Year 6 fee of $450,000. Year 5 was $2.3 million, so the Gauntlet Compound renewal cuts the price by roughly 80%.

What the Gauntlet Compound renewal pays
Under the Gauntlet Compound renewal, Gauntlet gets $450,000 in USDC, paid as four installments of $112,500 at the end of each quarter. The term runs from September 30, 2026 to September 29, 2027. Funds would come from the Treasury Management Committee, known as the TMC, after a Snapshot vote.
Last year's deal looked different. The Year 5 post set a fixed fee of $2.3 million for September 28, 2025 to September 28, 2026. Seventy percent streamed in COMP. The other 30% went into an insolvency fund, split between USDC and COMP, which Gauntlet might have to refund if losses hit.

The new post does not mention an insolvency fund or a COMP stream. Those details may sit elsewhere in the final terms, but the proposal text as published has neither.
Why the fee fell
Gauntlet gives two reasons. In earlier years it worked beyond risk, on projects such as Compound V4 and treasury consolidation. The Compound Foundation and other providers now lead those. It also says it has automated much of its monitoring, parameter review and reporting, so it can cover live markets for less.
Treasury support moves to the TMC under the plan. Gauntlet would still sign on the TMC Safe, and it would wind down the Aera vault it guards, as the TMC directs.
What stays the same in the Gauntlet Compound renewal
Day to day, little changes. Gauntlet would still look after up to 50 Comet deployments, which are Compound's per-market lending contracts. It would go on tuning collateral factors and supply caps, the settings that decide how much can be borrowed against what. Watching markets around the clock stays part of the job.
Incentives, interest rate curves and new listings stay in its hands too. In return the post offers a public risk dashboard that updates daily, plus a listing review within five business days whenever a request is high-impact.
Success is judged the way it was last year. The scorecard covers value at risk, liquidations at risk, borrowing power, and a goal of zero meaningful insolvencies from market risk inside Gauntlet's scope.
Exit terms and timing
The contract is easy to leave. Either side can end it on 60 days' written notice without a fresh governance proposal, and fees run only until the exit date. Money not yet paid stays under TMC control.
Timing is a little messy. Gauntlet expects the vote to finish after the current term lapses on September 30, 2026. Until then it says it will keep working at the Year 6 rate, prorated daily, and the new term is backdated to cover the gap.
The post closes by saying Gauntlet intends to take it on-chain after community feedback. It had no replies at the time of writing. This article reports the Gauntlet Compound renewal as proposed and does not predict the vote.
