Unichain is handing its day-to-day operation to the Optimism Foundation, and a governance proposal posted on October 16 covers the pieces that need a vote. The proposal says the Unichain operator migration is targeted for October 29. Three changes need approval through Optimism governance, because only the chain's top admin role can make them.

How the Unichain operator migration is set up

Under the plan, Unichain Mainnet moves its sequencer operations from Uniswap Labs to the Optimism Foundation, working as chain servicer through OP Enterprise. Most of the move needs no vote. The chain's L1 admin role already sits with the standard Optimism governance pair. That pair is the Foundation Upgrade Safe and the Security Council, and the transition was executed on September 14.

The proposal is a maintenance upgrade. Under Optimism's operating manual, that type skips the usual voting cycle and goes straight to an on-chain vote with optimistic approval. A one-week veto period applies, and a 20% veto threshold would block it.

Three changes that need the admin role

The Unichain operator migration brings a first change, which swaps the proposer on a fallback dispute game. That game still points to Uniswap's key, and the proposal moves it to a key run by OP Enterprise. The post calls the game a fallback and says leaving a departed operator's key on it would be incorrect state.

The second change handles the L1-fee leg of Unichain's fee splitter. Today that leg pays an address belonging to Uniswap, and Uniswap pays the chain's L1 data costs. After the move, the operator pays those costs instead.

So the leg has to follow the bill. The proposal has the admin role accept ownership of the contract and point its withdrawals at an OP Enterprise recipient. The same step cuts the smallest allowed withdrawal, which is 10 ETH now, to just 0.15 ETH.

What the Unichain operator migration leaves alone

The third change is a cleanup. An operator fee vault currently forwards to the base fee vault on L2, though operator fees are set to zero on Unichain today. The proposal routes it to the same OP Enterprise recipient with a 0.15 ETH minimum and withdrawals to L1.

The post says none of this affects protocol behavior, dispute game mechanics, bridge safety or end users. The fee splitter's other two legs and the three fee vaults that feed it are untouched. The revenue split agreed between Unichain and the Optimism Collective stays as it is.

Only two parties are directly affected, according to the post. OP Enterprise takes the proposer role on the fallback game and receives the L1-cost share. Uniswap Labs stops receiving that share because it stops paying L1 costs.

Steps already taken and the date to watch

The proposal says it rehearsed the proposer change on Unichain Sepolia. It also says three OP Labs engineers independently verified the new proposer key before signing. Uniswap has to start the fee splitter handover from its own multisig, and that step is outside the approval.

The next thing to watch is the on-chain vote and its veto window, followed by the October 29 target for the Unichain operator migration. The forum post is a proposal and not a final decision. This article does not say whether the vote will pass or whether the October 29 date will hold.
