VanEck Lido ETF Withdrawal Comes 363 Days After The S-1
VanEck asked the SEC on October 14 to withdraw its Lido staked ether trust after 363 days. The VanEck Lido ETF letter, what it says and what it does not say.

A fund that never launched has now been officially abandoned. On October 14, 2026, VanEck asked the SEC to withdraw the VanEck Lido ETF, a trust built around staked ether from Lido.

What the withdrawal letter says
The request is a Form RW signed by Matthew Babinsky, a vice president at VanEck Digital Assets, which sponsors the trust. It cites Rule 477 under the Securities Act and covers registration statement 333-290918. VanEck first filed that Form S-1 on October 16, 2025.
The stated reason is brief. The sponsor "does not intend to proceed with the planned distribution" of the trust's shares. The VanEck Lido ETF letter gives no other explanation and does not mention any comment from SEC staff. EDGAR time-stamped it at 01:07 UTC on October 15, which was still the evening of October 14 in New York.
It also closes off a few possibilities in plain words. The registration was never declared effective, and no shares were issued or sold. No preliminary prospectus was ever handed out.
A short paper trail for the VanEck Lido ETF
EDGAR's page for the trust shows how little there was. The company page shows just two filings for the trust, the first draft from 2025 and this withdrawal, with no amendment in between.

That matters for how to read the news. A fund that had been through rounds of SEC comments would usually leave amended filings behind. This one sat for 363 days with its first draft untouched, then ended in a single page.
Withdrawal is not a rejection
A Form RW is a sponsor's own request. The SEC did not turn the fund down in anything VanEck filed, and the SEC has not published a ruling on the product. Readers who see this as a regulatory defeat are reading more into it than the letter supports.
The letter also does not say VanEck is leaving staking products. It names one trust. Any new fund built around Lido's token would need a fresh registration, because this one is gone.
What Lido's token looks like now
The trust was meant to hold staked ether issued by Lido, the liquid staking protocol. On CoinGecko, that token traded near $2,367 with a market value of about $22.9 billion at 12:30 UTC on October 15. Ether itself was close to $2,364 at the same time.
Lido's governance token, LDO, was around $0.387, worth about $322 million. TOCE covered Lido earlier this week when Aave's risk stewards closed LDO deposits. That was a lending-market decision and has no link to the VanEck filing.
What to watch next
The first thing to check is EDGAR itself. Once the SEC consents to the withdrawal, the file number should stop showing as a live registration. Nothing in the letter sets a date for that.
Beyond that, the filing gives no hint of a replacement product, and the VanEck Lido ETF name now belongs to a closed file. Prices above are a snapshot with no forecast. This piece reports on a regulatory filing and is not a view on whether staked ether is a good holding.
