Social posts made a big deal of a 2011 Bitcoin wallet moving coins on October 7, 2026. They called it a Satoshi-era holder waking up after 15 years. The chain tells a less sudden story. That address has been draining in batches since June 2025, and this was its biggest batch and its last.

What the 2011 Bitcoin wallet did on October 7

Block 970,281 was mined at 03:33 UTC. Inside it, one transaction spent 87 separate outputs and paid 28.459 BTC to a single new address starting 3Jx9. Every input came from one old address, 1EmiMJ, and every one was received in 2011, between blocks 130,310 and 150,248. The deposits averaged about a third of a bitcoin each.

Fees were modest at 62,460 satoshis, or 4 sat/vB, for a transaction of 15,614 vbytes. At Binance's spot price of $82,690 the coins are worth about $2.35 million. Posts quoting $2.43 million and a 582,198% gain rest on price assumptions that this report did not rebuild.

Seven sweeps in sixteen months

The address took in 66.93 BTC across 212 outputs in 2011 and then sat silent for nearly 14 years. Since June 2025 it has behaved like a slow drain. The first sweep, on June 16, 2025, was a modest 1.03 BTC. On November 6 three transactions carried out about 6.7 BTC, and the last day of December added 1.09 BTC.

The batches then grew. May 7, 2026 moved 2.03 BTC from six inputs. Then August 16 took 8.54 BTC out of 29 inputs. A month later, September 16 took 19.10 BTC out of 81. October 7 finished the job with 28.46 BTC from 87.

Together the sweeps add up to the full 66.93 BTC the address ever received, which leaves it with about a thousand satoshis. This 2011 Bitcoin wallet is now effectively empty.

A wake-up after 15 years of sleep is the wrong picture. Nine transactions on seven dates is a holder working through old coins on a schedule.

Where the coins went next

The 28.459 BTC did not rest. In block 970,285, about 36 minutes after the first transaction, it was spent again. That transaction merged 71 inputs from dozens of addresses, 170.30 BTC in all, into a single SegWit address starting bc1qx9n8.

That destination has 24,231 transactions on record and holds about 3,485 BTC. Less than an hour later a third transaction split that pile in two, 64.45 BTC to one address and 105.76 BTC to another. Both are empty today. Inputs spent together usually share a controller, which fits a custodian or large holder reorganizing wallets. The chain does not name anyone, and neither does this report.

Address 3Jx9 was the usual landing spot. It took every sweep except one November transaction of about 5.5 BTC, and it has been funded 11 times for roughly 88 BTC in all.

Figures come from Blockstream's public API and explorer, and Binance for the price, as of October 8, 2026. This is a read of public transactions and gives no view on bitcoin's price.
