Balancer BEETS Burn Proposal Would Destroy 10M Tokens The DAO Holds
A forum draft asks Balancer's DAO to burn its 10 million BEETS on Sonic. The Balancer BEETS burn would remove nearly 4% of supply. Details and on-chain check.

A small line item has surfaced inside Balancer's wind-down. A forum post from October 14, 2026 proposes a Balancer BEETS burn. The DAO would destroy the 10 million BEETS it holds on Sonic instead of selling or distributing them. The draft has no BIP number yet. Its author puts the position at roughly $39,000, under half a percent of the treasury.

Where the Balancer BEETS burn idea comes from
The tokens date back to a vote in November 2021. Beethoven X, a Balancer fork on Fantom, was recognized as Balancer's approved friendly fork. In return, 5% of the BEETS supply was set aside. Four percent went to the DAO treasury on a two-year vest and 1% to BAL holders who staked in a Beethoven X farm. The post says that vote passed 481,735 to 6.
The treasury share vested in full and was claimed under BIP-607. It was later bridged to Sonic under BIP-757 and sits in a 6-of-11 multisig that the post says has not used it. A direct read of the Sonic chain agrees on the size. That multisig holds exactly 10,000,000 BEETS, about 3.9% of a total supply of roughly 259.3 million tokens.
Why the burn is on the table
Balancer's DAO is already winding down. TOCE covered the wind-down plan earlier in the Balancer fork vote article. BIP-928, as quoted in the new post, says smaller and less liquid positions get consolidated before the first redemption round. That round opens at the end of May 2027 and holders burn BAL in exchange for treasury assets.
The author argues this position fits that description. BEETS trades thinly on Sonic, the post says, and about $10,500 of buying in August moved the price by roughly 35%. Selling $39,000 worth into that market would return a fraction of its nominal value. Handing it out in kind would leave each claimant with a sliver on a chain most of them do not use.
What the Balancer BEETS burn would do
The specification is short. It would send 10,000,000 BEETS from the Sonic DAO multisig to the dead address. The multisig's signers would run it during asset consolidation, before BIP-928's first redemption round. The BEETS token contract has no burn function, so the tokens would stay counted in total supply but could never move.

The post is open about the terms. It says there is no contractual basis for the request, and that the 2021 exchange is complete. BAL holders would give up the roughly $39,000 at nominal value, with lower realizable value for the reasons above. For BEETS holders, 10 million tokens would leave circulation for good. The post calls that nearly 4% of supply and more than six months of current emissions.
The draft has only just been published and showed no replies when this was written. Any Balancer BEETS burn would still need a BIP number and, if it moves forward, a vote before the multisig could act.
