Ondo Finance has put a new product on its books, and the first token tracks an AI company that Ondo does not name. Ondo Private Markets was announced in a launch post published on October 5, 2026 at 18:49 UTC. Trading of the first token on secondary markets is expected to begin this week, with no date attached. A Cointelegraph post on X from October 6 described it as pre-IPO exposure for non-US investors, a phrase that appears nowhere in Ondo's own text.
How Ondo Private Markets notes pay out
Ondo calls each token a tokenized note. Its payout is linked to the per-share value realized on the referenced company's common shares at a "qualifying liquidity event."
That wording matters. Nothing pays out on a schedule. A listing or a sale has to happen first, and Ondo never says which events count. Holders get economic exposure only. The Block reported that the notes carry no ownership or shareholder rights.

Definition in question, from Ondo's launch post.
Ondo Private Markets notes can change hands around the clock on secondary markets, or sit in a holder's own wallet. A transfer has to land with another eligible holder. Next in line are robotics, cybersecurity, biotech and infrastructure names, and Ondo's longer list also mentions defense, energy and space.
Gaps in the Ondo Private Markets announcement
Start with the audience. The launch post promises access for eligible investors worldwide. Both The Block and CoinGape describe it as limited to non-US investors in permitted jurisdictions, which is a narrower group than worldwide.
The post also leaves out the entity that issues the notes, the minimum ticket, any fees and the trading venues. It gives no end date for the notes. If the AI company stays private for years, the post sets no deadline for holders.
Then there are the company's own figures. The post itself cites $3.9 billion in total value locked and over 1 million cumulative holders. Reporting by The Block on the announcement gives $3.7 billion for the same platform. Ondo supplied both, and they are $200 million apart.
Older Ondo rules and where they stop
Ondo's Disclaimers page was read on October 6 around 11:30 UTC. It defines its covered tokens as Ondo Stocks, USDY and OUSG. Private Markets notes are not on that list.

Three product families are named on the Disclaimers page, in Ondo's documentation.
It says the covered tokens cannot be offered in the United States or to US persons without registration or an exemption. In the European Economic Area and the UK they go solely to qualified investors, and in Switzerland solely to professional clients. An eligibility page for Ondo Stocks also bars Canada and a list of other prohibited jurisdictions. It names Ondo Global Markets (BVI) Limited as that product's issuer.
Browse the docs index and you find no Private Markets page. Terms of Service on the same site were last updated February 2, 2026. Where the rules for the new notes live is unclear. Reusing the older ones would mean guessing.
The ONDO token on October 6
The launch post does not tie Ondo Private Markets to the ONDO governance token. CoinGecko showed ONDO at about $0.50 at 11:30 UTC on October 6. Its market cap was near $2.44 billion, and the 24-hour change was minus 0.8%.
South Korea's regulator has also published a roadmap for putting stocks, bonds and funds onchain, which we covered earlier.
Notes tied to unlisted companies can drop to zero, and a thin secondary market may price them far from the shares behind them. Treat this as reporting. Anyone weighing a product like this should look at their own finances and local rules first, since it will suit few portfolios.
