Algorand King Safety Plan Paused As Forum Closes And xGov Ends
Algorand King Safety is paused indefinitely, ending talk of a higher supply cap, MEV capture and fee hikes, while the forum closes and xGov stops December 6.

Algorand King Safety is on hold. In a November 6 post, the Algorand Foundation said it is pausing Project King Safety indefinitely. Lifting the ALGO supply cap, capturing MEV and raising the minimum transaction fee are no longer under consideration.
The post describes the supply cap idea as inflation-based incentives. It calls King Safety a holistic roadmap item. The three ideas are no longer being considered at this time.
Other cuts came in the same community update. The forum closed that day. The xGov grants program stops on December 6, and two advisory bodies were wound down.
Why Algorand King Safety mattered
A July 2025 roadmap post introduced King Safety. The plan was to "revise Algorand's fee and incentive mechanisms." It promised a position paper in the fourth quarter of 2025 and implementation in 2026.

The update settles one open point. With Algorand King Safety paused, staking rewards are committed through January 2028, and the post calls this the first and most important point. It says the commitment stands.
What else Algorand switched off
New leadership and a push for a network that earns its own revenue are the reasons the Foundation gives. It says the forum mainly hosted xGov talk, which is why it closed with the program. A read-only archive will remain, and builders are sent to Discord.
The Ecosystem Advisory Council, formed in January, ended as a company-run body on November 6. Sponsorship of the Algorand Technical Council is also ending. Developer Council meetings will continue, with invitations available through Discord.
One fee idea survives in a narrow form. New usage-based fees may still be introduced or adjusted. The post gives the example of fees already applied to transactions signed with Falcon-1024 post-quantum accounts. More detail will come if that work moves forward.
The post adds that future plans and timelines are forward-looking and may change.
Algorand dates to keep in mind
Three dates frame the update. November 6 was the day the forum and the advisory council closed. December 6 is when xGov stops, which gives about a month from the announcement. January 2028 is how far the staking reward commitment runs.
Its blog also lists a January 14, 2026 announcement about a return to the United States and a new Board of Directors. The company ties the latest changes to that new leadership. It does not give figures for any of the paused ideas.
The post-quantum bet
The Foundation's stated next step is to take post-quantum security beyond its own chain. It says Falcon signatures have run on Algorand since 2022, quantum-resistant transactions arrived in 2025 and native post-quantum accounts in 2026. Algorand King Safety's pause leaves usage fees as the only fee change still open. Custodians, wallet providers, issuers and other networks are the intended customers.
The forum that carried most xGov discussion is now an archive, so community questions about these decisions move to Discord.
