The STRK price more than doubled in three sessions this week. Starknet's token closed near 4.9 cents on October 7 and touched 12.4 cents on October 11, according to Binance. CoinGecko shows a seven-day gain of 103.6% and a market value near $809 million. What set it off was a question from a founder, not a product launch.

What Ben-Sasson actually asked
On October 8, StarkWare chief executive Eli Ben-Sasson asked on X whether Starknet becoming its own layer 1 for post-quantum agility is a good idea or a bad one. He named two forces. One is a quantum threat that "may be MUCH closer than we think," and the other is AI "becoming more powerful than we can process."
The slide attached to his post reads "Ethereum too slow? Starknet becomes L1." That makes it a proposal for discussion. The post sets no vote, no date and no migration plan, and the trade outlets that covered it described Starknet as weighing the move.
How the STRK price reacted
Money showed up fast, and the STRK price followed it. Binance volume in STRK went from $9.0 million on October 7 to $32.1 million the next day, then $58.6 million and $77.7 million. October 10 alone gained about 41% from open to close, and the October 11 high landed another 20% above that close.
That still leaves the token about 97% under its February 2024 peak of $4.41, per CoinGecko. A seven-day double from a low base covers little of that distance. It also says nothing about whether a layer 1 plan would ever be approved.
A $13.7 million unlock is next for the STRK price
Supply is the next date on the calendar. Tokenomist lists an unlock of 127 million STRK on October 15 for early contributors and investors, valued at $13.7 million when the page was captured. By our math that is roughly 1.7% of circulating supply, using CoinGecko's count of 7.42 billion tokens.
Tokenomist also shows an adjusted market cap of $408 million next to the reported $810 million. It is the site's own measure, so compare it with the CoinGecko figure before quoting either one.
The schedule itself has a history. Tokenomist notes that a 13.1% unlock planned for April 15, 2024 was replaced by a gradual release running until 2027. It counts 3.8 billion of the 10 billion tokens as released. The September 15 tranche had the same 127 million tokens but was valued at only $3.7 million. Today's unlock carries a price tag nearly four times larger.
