Abstract Chain Shutdown Set For Dec 15 As TVS Slides 32%

Abstract, the Ethereum layer-2 tied to Pudgy Penguins, will stop on December 15, 2026. L2BEAT shows value secured down 32.5% in a week.

Abstract, the Ethereum layer-2 that Decrypt ties to Pudgy Penguins parent Igloo Inc., will stop running on December 15, 2026. Abstract posted the wind-down on X on October 6, and its migration page already runs a countdown. This Abstract chain shutdown leaves holders about ten weeks to bridge out before access to their funds ends.

Abstract chain shutdown: what users must do

Abstract's post opens with a plain line. "After almost three years, we are saddened to share that Abstract is winding down." Users can bridge out through the Migration Hub or the native bridge at native-bridge.abs.xyz. It also lists Stargate, Relay and Jumper as alternative routes.

Anything not moved by December 15 is lost to its owner, according to the page, and that rule applies to every wallet. Abstract's docs site at docs.abs.xyz carries a banner pointing to the same migration page, which gives users one official place to start. Decrypt adds that the native bridge has a three-hour delay. Users should also watch for fake migration sites and direct messages, which the team says are circulating.

Abstract's own migration page lists the December 15 deadline and the bridges it supports.

Why the team is closing Abstract

Decrypt, which read the full post, says the team blamed a thin DeFi scene, shallow liquidity and little institutional crossover. It also cites a smaller budget than rival chains. Decrypt quotes the team saying a chain built only for consumer crypto "has ultimately proven to be unsustainable as a standalone model."

Decrypt relays the team's own tally for the Abstract chain shutdown too. Abstract counts more than 325 million transactions, over $6 billion in DEX volume and $40 million in ecosystem revenue. It also reports above 4 million Abstract Global Wallets. Engineers will help apps on the chain move elsewhere, according to the same report, which gives builders a path out as well.

Value on Abstract was already sliding before the shutdown news

Data from L2BEAT shows Abstract's total value secured at $39.6 million on October 7, down 32.5% over seven days. Its daily series put the chain near $59 million on September 30. That came well before the Abstract chain shutdown post, so about half of the slide happened first. Three days later it sat near $49 million, so the fall was steady rather than a single exit.

L2BEAT's record reading came on August 14, 2025, at roughly $297 million. Against that peak, the October 7 level is about 87% lower. L2BEAT also lists the project at Stage 0, its lowest rung of rollup decentralization.

DefiLlama measures something narrower, only assets sitting in apps on the chain. On that count Abstract held $8.7 million on October 7, against a $57.8 million high on the same August day in 2025. Activity has held up better. L2BEAT logged 173,777 transactions on October 6, inside the 139,000 to 223,000 daily range of the week before.

A second layer-2 exit this week

Decrypt notes that Blast, the Paradigm-backed network, said last week it would wind down too. DefiLlama puts Blast at $22.6 million on October 7, far below the $2.26 billion it logged in June 2024. Other young chains have lost ground fast too, as our look at Robinhood Chain's DEX volume shows.

Its migration page counts down to December 15, 2026, the day the chain stops.
